I Lost My Heart to a Galway Girl...

... or at least to Gerard Butler singing about one...

Yep, that's right-- in honor of St. Patrick's Day, I'm going to give a shout-out to a pseudo-Irishman singing a pseudo-Irish song in a pseudo-Irish movie.

Sound a bit absurd? Maybe. But who can resist Gerard Butler's rousing rendition of "Galway Girl" in the 2007 film P.S. I Love You.

Don't want to sit through the entire somewhat melancholy movie just to see this one little gem? Fear not- you can view it here!

And... given that there are at least a dozen versions of this song on my iPod, it seems only fair to pay respect to the other musical greats who have tackled the song over the years. Check out a few other memorable renditions...

Steve Earle, "The Original"

The Town Pants, The "Up-Tempo" Version

Mundy with Sharon Shannon, "The Duet"

Cailín na Gaillimhe, "The Irish Version"
